C3 is a
branch of the SPEAQ
Internet site. It was created for SPEAQ with financial
support from Heritage Canada
. The
focus of the site is the learner's development of and the teaching
of competency three: Writes and Produces texts as set
out in the Ministry programs of study in the province of
Quebec with the added support of integrated
information and communication technologies (ICT).
The
C3 site
links a variety of online and other ICT resources such as
GNU software
to the various steps in the processes related to writing and
producing texts or media in order to provide examples, tools
and resources that are meant to enhance, differentiate and
provide a measure of autonomy for the students as they forge
a path to creating, collaborating and communicating their
self-expressions in English, their second language. In order
to focus on writing skills and rules we have adapted and
included LEO: Literacy
Education Online to
provide direct and dependable links to topics related to
advanced elements of the writing process. We also
hope that the many resources and links will supplement the
teacher's toolbox, allow for designating paths and
remediation tools and facilitate the task by providing
possibilities for the teacher to develop strategies, better
understanding and a diversity of material and input.
Whether it be used in order to
support teaching:

1) to provide creative resources for teachers to
direct/guide students through tasks using the writing and production
processes. Teachers may map out a path or paths through the site that will
lead the students to accomplished assigned tasks. (suggestions)
2) to enable teachers to support students and provide
differentiated possibilities for writing and production. Teachers may refer
students to the possibilities on the site, encourage experimentation and the
creation of writing and production portfolios as well as using sections of
the site for specific remediation. (suggestions)
3) to encourage students to develop their own
possibilities for self-expression through writing and production activities
and provide creative tools to accomplish their personal goals.
(suggestions)
or to support learning

1) to encourage you (the student) to develop
your own possibilities for self-expression through writing and production
activities and provide creative tools to accomplish your personal goals.
2) to enable teachers to support students and provide
differentiated possibilities for writing and production. Teachers may refer
students to the possibilities on the site, encourage experimentation and the
creation of writing and production portfolios as well as using sections of
the site for specific remediation.
3) to provide creative resources for teachers to
direct/guide students through tasks using the writing and production
processes. Teachers may map out a path or paths through the site that will
lead the students to accomplished assigned tasks.
The
C3 site by
its close relation to the evolution of ICT, is subject to
change and to adapt as the links to examples, the tools and
resources appear and disappear. We have not been able to
include all and only the best. Differentiation demands
choices: levels of complexity, calls to a variety of
aptitudes and interests as well as language levels. In this
light, we have attempted to provide both more basic and more
complex possibilities. Checklists are included that
remind of the essentials and others that call upon the
enhancements and embellishments that "polished" writing and
producing can demand. Video tutorials and
text-to-speech avatars are used from time to time to
provide autonomy and better communication between the site
material and the learner as are comic strips
that add a humouristic ingredient to the material and an
example of a possible avenue of self-expression. In conclusion, if we are to
have students who are prepared for the challenges of the
21st century, then we must nurture and challenge with those
technologies and resources that are available today and not
be satisfied with just those of yesteryears and the last
century.
Finally,
SPEAQ and Heritage Canada are not responsible for the
content of the sites and resources which the C3
site suggest as links. We hope these sites can be motivational and supportive
but good judgment and teaching good judgment is the only
defense for the appropriateness of evolving content.
